717 Killed In Mina Stampede

At least 717 people were killed during a stampede in Mina, during the Hajj Pilgrimage, while 863 others were injured today, September 24, 2015.

The death toll is expected to rise.

To this date, the authorities haven’t know what caused the stampede.

The Saudi authorities said the tragedy hit when two large groups of pilgrims who were preparing for one of the last major rites of their trip met on an intersection of two roads,

Al Jazeera English’s Basma Atassi in Mina reported that the tragedy took place among tents erected on Street 204, and not where people were throwing stones at the Jamarat pillars which are surrounded by a five-storey bridge-like structure.

So far, no Malaysian pilgrims were reportedly involved with the incident.

This is the second deadly disaster during this year’s Hajj, after a construction crane collapsed on September 11, 2015, killing 111 pilgrims and injuring more than 200 others.
