Rescue and clean-up efforts were underway across the Midwest on Sunday after dozens of tornadoes tore through the region, killing at least five people in Oklahoma, leaving thousands without power in Kansas and damaging up to 90 percent of the homes and buildings in one small Iowa town. There were dozens of tornadoes that destroyed buildings, vehicles and trees across the Midwest during the weekend.

Tornado is a natural disaster that sucked up things along its path and dropped them back to the ground may be a few meters away.

I first learned about tornadoes after reading the book, ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

I was 4 years old at that time and I wondered why only Dorothy’s house was sucked up by the twister and not some other things around it.

Actually tornado only destroys things along its path.

More Water Spouts Predicted In Malaysian Waters

20 06 2011

Water spout seen from Pengkalan Teluk Buih, Air Papan, Mersing, Malaysia on June 18, 2011. (Kosmo.com.my).

At about 3:30 pm on June 18, 2011, villagers in Pengkalan Teluk Buih, Air Papan, Mersing, Johore were surprised to see a water spout that swiftly moved towards their village.

A lot of fishermen’s boats were reported damaged.

Water spout rarely happens in Malaysian waters in the past.

Anyway the Meteorological Department predicts that the changing climate could result in more waterspouts in certain areas such as the one that occurred here.

Similar waterspouts had been detected in Penang, Selangor, Malacca, Sarawak and Sabah.

Water spout is something like a tornado(twister) but it started in the sea or ocean.

It is a disaster.

28 05 2011

These photos(from AP) are of Joplin, Missouri before and after the powerful tornado(twister) tore the city.

At least 132 people were killed and more than 900 people were injured.

By Friday, about 156 people were still missing.

The tornado that hit Joplin on Sunday was rated an EF-5 or the strongest possible.

It scored a direct hit on the city of 50,000 people in southwest Missouri and left a swath of destruction nearly a mile wide, damaging some 8,000 buildings.

It is reportedly the worst single tornado in modern US history.

I am very sad to see the photos.

So many people are suffering and there are children missing during the disaster.

I pray that they will be okay.

The tornado touched down at 5:41 p.m. Sunday, about 24 minutes after a warning was issued.

Rescuers race to search for victims trapped under the rubbles of fallen trees, damaged buildings and smashed vehicles before it is too late.

But the work was slowed by a new round of very bad weather; including thunderstorms and hail two inches in diameter that rolled through the city Monday, as well as widespread problems with broken natural gas lines and other safety issues, authorities said.

Two rescuers were struck by lightning as they braved relentless rain and high winds searching for survivors.

By Monday night, they’d found 17 people alive.

I am very sad and sorry to see so many people died, a lot of people injured, have no houses to live in anymore and lost their things.

They must feel very sad.

More tornadoes are possible Tuesday in Joplin and other cities in the central U.S.

Anyway I hope that there will not be too much more tornado.
