Photos: Wildlife Photographer Of The Year Awards 2015

The overall winner of the competition was Canadian photographer Don Gutoski. The judges were moved by his picture of a red fox clutching a lifeless arctic fox in a rare example of the two larger of the two foxes hunting its smaller cousin. The picture was taken in the far north of Canada, where global warming has forced the two species to live in the same areas and compete for the same prey. Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award, developed and produced by the Natural History Museum in London announced their winners.

Dan Gutoski from Canada was the overall winner for capturing a photo of a red fox eating an Arctic fox.

Here are nine of the winners’ submissions:

The ghostly silouette of a fox, taken in a Surrey garden, was the winning photograph in the Urban category. Richard Peters was aiming to capture the relationship between urban foxes and humans, despite not actually depicting either. (Richard Peter / Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2015)

In the 11 to 14 year-old photographer category, the top picture was taken in the far north of Norway during summer, when the sun shines 24 hours a day. Photographer Amir Ben-Dov spent days observing the behaviour of these red-footed falcons in Israel before snapping this moment of interaction. The strange dynamic he caught won him the prize in the Birds category. (Amir Ben-Dov / Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2015)

Jonathan Jagot claimed victory in the 15 to 17-year-old photographer category with his shot of a flock of Scarlet Ibis gliding smoothly over a Brazilian sand dune. The birds are usually found in marshes and mangroves, so the sand is an usual background for their flight. (Jonathan Jagot / Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2015)

A birdseye view of the Bahia de Cadiz National Park in Spain shows the marshes alive with bright colour, thanks to a bloom of microalgae, salt deposits and orangey-brown sediment. The picture took the top prize in the From The Sky category. (Pere Soler / Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2015)

A barn swallow soars through a torn oil painting in this surreal image, captured by Juan Tapia at his farm in Spain. Juan hung the ripped painting in front of a storehouse window, knowing it was a spot the swallows often flew through. The resulting picture took the prize in the Impressions category. 44 Injured In Swiss Train Collision

BERLIN (AP) — At least 35 people were injured, five of them seriously, in a head-on collision of two trains in western Switzerland late Monday, police said. One person had yet to be recovered from the wreckage.

At least 44 people were injured when two commuter trains collided head-on near the station of Granges-pres-Marnand, about 8 km (5 miles) south of Payerne in Switzerland at around 6:45 p.m. on Monday evening, July 29, 2013.

5 of them were critically injured.

The trains were on a route between Payerne and Lausanne.

One locomotive’s driver was missing after the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the caused the crash.

This train accident came just days after 79 people were killed in a high-speed train derailment in Spain and 17 days after another train accident in France killing 6 people.

Train Derails In Spain, At Least 60 Were Killed

Dozens were killed and injured when a train derailed outside the northern Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on Wednesday, state media and witnesses said. “It was going so quickly … It seems that on a curve the train started to twist, and the wagons piled up one on top of the other,” passenger Ricardo Montesco told Cadena Ser radio station. (Reuters

A train derailed outside the ancient north western Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on Wednesday.

60 people were killed in the accident while 131 others were injured.

247 people were on board of the train when it derailed at about 8:41 p.m..

The operator of the train is the state rail company, Renfe while state-owned Adif is in charge of the tracks

Renfe said in a statement that the eight-carriage train was travelling from Madrid to Ferrol on the Galician coast when it derailed.

It was one of the worst rail accidents in Europe over the past 25 years.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the tragedy and an official source said that sabotage or attack was unlikely to be involved.

El Pais newspaper cited sources close to the investigation as saying the train was travelling at over twice the speed limit on a sharp curve.

On Friday July 12, 2013, 6 people were killed in another train accident in France.

“Mmm … Tasty!”  said Martin licking his lips. He put down his tea cup and looked at Lin saying, “The tea is very tasty, Lin”. Lin answered, “Thank you, Marty. So all of you are going to Australia tomorrow morning, right? Can I come along?” “That is a very good idea,” said Eve. She put down her tea cup and said, “You are right, Marty. The tea is very tasty.” Lin went up from her chair and said, “All of you can sleep here tonight. I’ll cook dinner for all of us.” “Lin, do you have the ticket yet?” asked Eve. “No, I’d better book my ticket now,” answered Lin going to her computer to book her ticket.

Early the next morning, the four friends were ready to go to the airport. Lin said to her friends, “We’d better get going. I think it is time to go to the airport.” “Yes! Time to go to Australia to meet our old friend, Peter Hard,” added Paul, smiling happily. Soon, they were in a taxi, on the way to the San Pablo Airport. They rushed inside the airport and checked in their bags. “Vuelo a Australia está listo para despegar!” Lin looked at her friends excitedly and said, “That is our flight to Australia, let’s go!” Soon they were on the aeroplane to Australia to meet their friend.

On the lands of Australia, they rented a car and drove from the airport, past an orchard by a hill, and green fields full of cows. “It is beautiful in Australia,” said Eve. Later they reached Peter Hard’s house. Paul knocked the door and after a while, Peter opened it. Paul asked Peter, “Will you join us to re ….” But before Paul could finish his question, Peter laughed loudly and hugging Paul, Peter said, “Ha ha ha! My old friends. It is really good to see all of you again.”  

Paul was stunned.  The serious Peter was acting so weirdly that made him nervous. Paul cleared his throat and continued his sentence “… vive the Astolf Band?” Peter pulled Paul inside while saying, “Of Course! I love the idea. In fact I really miss the band members. And it is so good to see my old dear friends again.” Peter looked at his friends and said, “This is a big house and I have enough rooms for everybody. You can go apple picking in my orchard while I get things ready for a barbecue dinner tonight.  By the way, there are a few pear trees in the backyard and a few cherry trees near the garage. Bring some big baskets so that we can enjoy lots of the sweet, juicy fruits tonight.”

After the cup of tea, Martin invited Paul and Eve to spend the night at his home. They had an early night because the next morning, they were going to Spain to meet Lin Bastain.

The three friends woke up very early the next morning. They all rushed into Martin’s car. And “Vrroooom!” went the car. The car speeded down the road, they turn left and right and at last they reached the Berlin Schönefeld Airport.

Martin parked his car and they rushed to the departure area, checked in their bags and soon they heard, “Achtung! Flug nach Spanien wird bald fahren!”. “That is our flight to Spain, let’s go!”, said Martin rushing to the departure gate.

In the aeroplane after they buckled their seat belts,  Martin put on the headphone to listen to the music while Paul went to sleep.  Eve looked outside watching the birds flying over the buildings around the airport.

A few hours later, their plane landed safely in Spain. Paul, Eve and Marty took a taxi and they drove past the woods to Lin’s house. At last they reached Lin’s house. Martin went to the small house and knocked the door. The door opened and Martin saw Lin at the door holding a newspaper.

Lin was speechless to see her friends. Martin said, “Oh! Hello Lin”, and he pulled Paul and pushed him to the front door. Paul asked, “Hello Lin, would you like to join us to revive the Astolf Band?” Lin looked at them and said, “Did you came all the way to Spain just for that?” She smiled and said, “Of course, if you all will come inside and have tea with me.”

Spain defeated Italy  4-0  in the UEFA EURO 2012 final match at the Olympic Stadium, Kiev, Ukraine on July 1, 2012.

It was a fantastic goal from Silva of Spain.

So Spain win the trophy of UEFA EURO 2012.
