(Yahoo News) – The first winners of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards have been announced.

10 extraordinary pictures have been selected as the winners of the ‘Open’ category of the competition, selected from a pool of more than 100,000 entries.

Journalist and photographer Damien Deomolder, chair of the Open competition, said: ‘It has been a pleasure and an inspiration to be exposed to such a volume of great work, and a privilege too that I could share in the personal moments, the joys, tears, life and losses of photographers from all around the globe who recorded their experiences through their pictures.’

The winners of the National Awards, a global contest to find best images taken by photographers in 66 countries, have also been announced.

This year the competition expanded to Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates for the first time.

Here are some of the most spectacular pictures, taken by both amateur and professional photographers.

Going To Penang

23 10 2009

Continued from Going To Cameron Highland 🙂 Please read my last post 🙂

I reached Penang at about 3:00 PM.

I stayed at the Bayview Beach Resort at Batu Ferringhi Beach for 2 nights and 3 days.

I stayed in a BIG family room with a king size bed and two other beds with two Sony televisions sets.

My room number was 740.

Bayview Beach Resort is my favourite hotel in Penang.

I always stay there when I go to Penang.

In the evening I played at the beach until sunset.

The next morning I played at the beach again.

I went on a boat ride, rode on a jet ski, played in the sea and built a triangle sand castle.

I enjoyed riding the jet ski the best, next building the sand castle, next boat riding, and last playing in the sea because I don’t like it when the salt water got into my mouth.

I told the wave to stop but it did not listen to me.

I love riding the jet ski because it was very, very, very, very, very fast.

In the evening I played at the beach again until sunset.

We had our dinner at Padang Brown.

I ate a delicious mutton soup with bread.

The next morning we went to Fort Cornwallis and Gurney Drive before we went on the ferry and drove back to Kuala Lumpur.

I enjoyed the trip to Penang very much because it was really fun.

Fin. The End.
