Upacara Mandi Minyak (PSSGM)

My big sisters and I before the Upacara Mandi Minyak.
My big sisters and I before the Upacara Mandi Minyak.

On the 5th of December, I took part in Upacara Mandi Minyak (Oil Bath Ceremony) at Masjid Taman Kosas, Ampang organised by Pertubuhan Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia (PSSGM).

It took long hours to cook coconut milk in huge woks before the milk turned into coconut oil for the oil bath ceremony.

Soon after the coconut oil was ready, the ceremony started.

We read a few verses from the Quran before dipping our hands into the hot oil and spread the oil all over our body.

Amazingly, the oil was not too hot even though it was just ready but we have to be very careful not to touch the very hot wok.

Silat is a type of Malay martial art.

I Lost My First Baby Tooth

On Sunday morning, 20th December 2009 I lost my first baby tooth.

Baby teeth are our first set of teeth.

We can also call them milk teeth.

When we grow up we’ll be having new teeth.

They are called permanent teeth.

This is how I lost my baby teeth:

In the morning we went to a farmer’s market and we bought some ‘keropok lekor’.

I ate ‘keropok lekor’ on the way home and when I was taking the last bite I saw my baby tooth on it!

I was surprised!

Fortunately I did not eat it together with the keropok.

I showed my mother my baby tooth.

My mother cleaned the tooth and keep it in a safe place.

Later when my big sisters came back home from their silat class I told them that I lost my tooth.

I am so happy that I had lost my first baby tooth.

Now I have another small permanent tooth and I think I’m going to loose another baby tooth soon 🙂
