Water Pollution

United Nations says that water pollution is now a serious problem.

This is a disaster.

We may not have clean water to drink!

Water pollution is dirty water because people throw rubbish in the water.

Factories throw dirty water and sometimes toxic waste into the rivers and lakes.

The oil from the ships and boats also pollute the water.

Sometimes there are not much oxygen in polluted water.

So the fishes cannot breathe and die.

There are lots of kinds of germs inside the water that is polluted.

Water pollution caused Cholera, diarrhoea, food poisoning, some skin diseases and other health problems.

Animals, human and plants can die because of diseases caused  by polluted water.

Acid rains also pollute the rivers, lakes and seas.

Acid rains are caused by air pollution.

We must stop throwing rubbish in to the water.

We must invent boats and ships that won’t pollute the water.

We must treat the water that we use at homes and factories before sending them to the river.

We must clean the polluted rivers and lakes.

We can use protozoa to eat the bacteria in the polluted water.

I want people to stop polluting the water and stop polluting our earth.

Protozoa

A Type Of Protozoa In A Bone Marrow Cell

Protozoa (pro-to-zoh-uh) are one-cell micro-organisms.

Protozoa are something like animal.

They often spread diseases through water.

They also spread diseases through insects like malaria.

Protozoa that caused malaria

Anopheles mosquito spread malaria.

Protozoa is very important because they help to balance the ecosystem.

Protozoa are important in food chains too.

Protozoa eat algae and bacteria; then they are eaten by animals and those animals are eaten by other animals and so on until they die and eaten by bacteria and the bacteria are eaten by protozoa 🙂

What Are Germs?

Germs are tiny living things that can make us sick.

They can make plants and animals sick too.

But some of them are good and useful.

We need  to use a microscope to see them.

Germ Under A Microscope

Germs do not make their own food.

They get their food from their environment.

Environment means the surrounding or where we live.

Bad germs produce toxins which is something like poison.

The toxin can make us sick.

So when bad germs get into our body; they eat our nutrients, reproduce and make us sick.

Influenza A(H1N1) and AIDS are caused by germs.

There are 4 types of germs:

1)Fungi (fun-guy)

Mushrooms are fungi

2)Bacteria (back-teer-ee-uh)

3)Protozoa (pro-toh-zoh-uh)

4)Viruses (vy-rus-iz)

Fungi are the biggest and viruses are the smallest.

Germs love to grow in dirty places and spreads very fast after a big flood, tsunami, earthquake and wars.

After natural disasters there will be cholera outbreak and other diseases from bacteria infections.

To fight germs we have to keep ourselves and our environment clean.

Always wash our hands using anti-bacteria soap and clean water, eat healthy food and drink a lot of water, juices, tea, herb tea and other healthy drinks.
