Photos: Freezer Frozen ‘Landscape’ By Gary Jensen Can you believe that these are photos of ice in a freezer? Who knew an industrial freezer could be so beautiful? Icicles hang from the ceiling, while stalagmite-like ice rises from the floor. Last November after more than 80 years, a gigantic walk-in freezer from the Fulton Market Cold Storage Co. in Chicago was defrosted. Photographer Gary Jensen had captured wonderful pictures of the ice before it melted away. I think that the photos are very, very beautiful and the ice on the top part of the freezer looks like storm cloud. (Please click the photos for larger images) Beautiful to look at but not so fun once the icicles start falling. Hard hats advised. (Photo by Gary Jensen) This is what happens when you don’t defrost the freezer: The ice takes over and forms its own society. (Photo by Gary Jensen) Words fail us. Another stunning look at what ice does when left on its own for decades. (Photo by Gary Jensen) The only thing missing from this picture: Penguins.
