Ramadhan’s Bedil In Kuala Terengganu
In Kuala Terengganu, one of the most special part of Ramadhan is the ‘bedil’.
How I wish there is ‘bedil’ in Kuala Lumpur too, to signal the time for Iftar and Imsak.
Below is a post that I wrote on September 28, 2010 about photographing the bedil in Kuala Terengganu.
Photographing The Bedils

In Kuala Terengganu people break their fast after the sound of the ‘bedil’ in the Ramadhan.
There were ‘bedil‘s on the 2nd day of Eid until 7th day of Eid too.
On the 5th day of Eid, my dad took me to Bukit Pak Apil in Kuala Terengganu to watch ‘bedil’ shooting.

A policeman guided us to a safe location to watch the ‘bedil‘.

First we have to wait for the sound of ‘dup’.
Then we started snapping lots and lots and lots of photos as the ‘bedil‘ exploded in the sky into a gigantic umbrella of colourful lights right above our heads.
Then the umbrella turned into tiny sparkles of lights like colourful rain drops and faded into tiny umbrellas of smoke.

We went there again on the 6th and 7th day of Eid to snap more photos.
It was very, very hard to snap the photos because we have to aim at the right spot of where there the wind would blow the ‘bedil’.
We also need to snap at the right moment before the beautiful ‘bedil’ faded into umbrellas of smoke in the sky.
We also had to squat down fearing the loud sound made us jump and fall down the cliff.

I snapped some beautiful ‘bedil’ photos and I am very proud of them 🙂
I snapped all the above photos by myself!
Meeting Datuk Seri Najib’s Political Secretary, Datuk Sahlan Ismail
Yesterday I went to Uncle Datuk Sahlan bin Ismail’s Eid open house.
Uncle Datuk Sahlan is the Prime Minister’s political secretary.
I ate ketupat with chicken rendang and drank orange juice.
I asked him questions regarding BN and PR.

He told me that BN is the best choice for Malaysia.
And we agree that even though BN did lots of wrong things, but PR is much worse.
One thing that I learn is BN supporters and politicians accept that BN is not perfect but PR supporters and politicians always claim to be perfect and would blame others for all the bad things that they did.
We can only be better if we can learn from our mistakes.
I am very happy to meet Uncle Datuk Sahlan and even happier because he said that I’m a good understander and a good listener.

Flash Flood Hit Segambut, Sentul and Klang

Yesterday Segambut was hit by a bad flash flood.
In some area the flood water rose up to 3 meters tall.
This happened on the third day of Eid.
Flash floods were also reported in Jalan Ipoh in Sentul and Klang.

This is a disaster!
I am very sorry for the victims especially the Muslims who were still celebrating Eid when their houses were flooded.

Rambutan Picking

I was in Terengganu for the last two weeks for Eid holidays.
Kuala Terengganu is my parent’s hometown.
On the second day of Eid we visited Tok Teh.
Tok Teh is my grand aunty.
I called my grand uncle Tok Teh too.
It is very sad that he had passed away.
There were a lot of red, ripe rambutans on the rambutan trees at Tok Teh’s house.
So, a few days later we visited Tok Teh’s house again for a rambutan picking.

Rambutan is a type of a fruit with hair on its skin.

‘Rambut’ is hair in Malay language.
My big sister Kaman used a pole (galah) to pluck the rambutans.
My other sisters and I ran to collect to rambutans.
It was like a ‘rambutan rain’ 🙂

It was really fun.
This is the first time I went rambutan picking.

It was as fun as apple picking.
Later we ate the fruits.
They were very, very sweet.
Open Houses In KL
Now is Shawal, during Shawal we have a lot of Eid open houses.
Today I went to Uncle Ali’s house in Shah Alam.
I ate nasi impit, pampadum & tasty lamb BBQ.
Uncle Ali was my father’s schoolmate.
My father’s school was Sultan Sulaiman Secondary School.
Next we went to Uncle Amrahi’s house in Keramat.
I ate satay, custard and nata de coco.
They are very tasty.
I love custard very much.
Uncle Amrahi is the vice president of Silat Cekak Hanafi.
I met a lot of Silat Cekak Hanafi’s members and instructors.
After Uncle Amrahi’s house I went to a wedding celebration in Gombak.
I was too full so I only ate a piece of watermelon.
Junk Food And Bad Food During Eid
Junk food is not good.
Bad food is not good too.
Junk food is worse than bad food because they are useless.
Bad food are food that has too much sugar, salt and fat.
Bad food has artificial colouring, flavouring and trans-fat.
There are lots of junk food and bad food during Eid.
I tried a little bit and they were tasty.
I wanted to eat more but I know that I must not eat bad food.
I do not ate much because they can make me sick.
But I saw a lot of children eating lots of them during Eid.
And I saw lots of adults ate them too.
When we visit other people’s house during Eid do not eat junk food.
And during Eid do not buy junk food and bad food.
