Tales From Calovinia, A Story By Ahmad Ali Karim

Chapter 1 – An Attack

It was a glorious day in Calovinia. All the flowers were blooming and all the birds are singing in the gardens around the beautiful castle. King Ali of Calovinia was having a happy time talking to King Gampore from the country of Arguay. But soon, an attack by their enemy, Cinra disturbed their private gathering.

Their ally, Torky came to help the Calovinians and together they fought the enemy but they almost lost to the very powerful Cinra. Torky sent more armies and at last they won the battle. The King of Torky ordered his infantry units named the Janissaries to attack Jupron because it was the King of Jupron who made the plan for Cinra to attack Calovinia.

In Jupron’s fort, a Jupron spy came back from Calovinia, telling the news of the incoming attack to his leader. The Jupron army leader, Date Masamone commanded his armies to prepare and sent a cavalry archer to see if the Torky’s armies had arrived.

As the cavalry rode out from the fort looking out for the enemy, he was almost shot by Torky’s Janissaries. Immediately he rode back to the fort with the bad news. He jumped from his horse and ran to tell the Date that armies from Torky were already there.

Date Masamone commanded, “One hundred skirmishers, attack now!” and off went the hundred skirmishers to the battle ground. They attacked the Janissaries but the Janissaries were too strong for them and they were defeated in no time. Jupron sent more and more armies and at the same time a big reinforcements from Torky reached the battle field .

The Juprons fought and fought until most all of their soldiers at the battle field were killed. The Date did not give up, he sent more and more armies. But the Janissaries were too strong for the Juprons. Then Date Masamone sent  out all of their archers. They almost won the battle but as a new reinforcements from Torky reached the battle field, the Torky won the battle.

The King of Torky was very happy to hear the good news. He had defeated all of his enemy except Cinra. But the King of Torky was a very wise man. He knew that he could not be really sure that there was no other enemy except Cinra because anyone could turn into an enemy in just a blink of an eye.

The next day, Sir Ali found an artifact. He took it to Sir Hanianon and asked him what was it. Sir Hanianon gasps when he saw the artifact. It was the great Legendary Muffin! Sir Hanianon took the Legendary Muffin to the Relosolt Orsest forest and put it in a magical bowl.

Back at the castle, Sir Ali saw an Arguay and a Brotosh army attacked one of the knights of Calovinia. He realised that the Arguays and the Brotosh had betrayed them. He told the knights about it and told them to be careful.

The Relosolt Orsest forest.

“If only we can change the tree’s green leaves to grey, we can easily hide in the leaves without being seen by our enemies,” said Sir Burma. Sir Ali answered, “Well my brother, a leopard can’t change its spots”. All of the sudden, Sir Burma said, “I think I should attack King Antire of Jupron.” Sir Ali looked at him saying, “Well, better look before you leap, or you might get into trouble.”

Sir Burma turned to the knights of Calovinia and said loudly, “Birds of a feather flock together! So, to battle we go!” And off the went to Jupron to attack King Antire. The Jupron armies were very strong and they almost defeated the Calovinian.  Suddenly the Alustaqims reached the battlefield and with their help, the Calovinians defeated the Jupron.

King Antire was very angry and  he shouted, “I’ll wi…” But before he could finish his sentence, Sir Hanianon went in and said, “Do not count your chickens before they are hatched. We won’t kill you and we’ll be giving you something precious but only if you’ll become our ally. King Antire had no choice but to agree with the offer. Anyway, his people did not agree with the agreement.

Sir Hanianon then gave the king three diamonds and two hundred gold coins. King Antire was not happy because he wanted something more precious but Sir Ali said, “Well, beggars cannot be choosers and be happy with what you have.”

The next day, he went to the blacksmith and asked the blacksmiths to make some ‘Dardanelles Guns’. ‘Dardanelles Gun’ was a type of cannon that was used by the armies of the Ottoman Empire and was also known as ‘Great Bombard’.

A month later, one of the Arguay’s scouts went to Calovinia asking for help. The Calovinian king agreed to help the Arguays so they could test their new weapon. He sent a troop of army and they brought along the Dardanelles Guns. The Dardanelles Guns were great weapon and they defeated the armies of Jupron.

King Antire the 20th of Jupron was very angry. He wanted to attack Calovinia. The king said to his armies,”Go and attack Calovinia now. I’m very sure we’ll win”.

At that moment, Uanuf Ali and 50 other great knights of Calovinia were hiding at the back of the king’s tent. They came inside and Uanuf Ali said to the king, “Do not count your chickens before they are hatched”. Uanuf Ali was one of the grandsons of the Calovinian king.

The Jupron attacked them but the Calovinian knights defeated the Jupron. And then it was the time for a duel between Uanuf Ali and King Antire the 20th.

Suddenly Queen Yarmadurna and Prince Lamandor of Jupron rushed into the tent to attack Uanuf Ali. But one of the Brotosh armies who had just arrived saw them and he stopped them from attacking Uanuf Ali.

King Antire the 20th went to hide in one of the rooms inside his castle. Prince Lamandor tried to attack Uanuf Ali again but Sir Hanianon pulled Uanuf Ali to safety and they went back to Calovinia.

A few days later, while Sir Hanianon was hunting, he met three tired and hungry villagers asking for help. They told Sir Hanianon that they ran away because Jupron’s armies was going to attack their village. Sir Hanianon helped them and after that he asked the villagers where did they came from.

One of the villager’s daughter named Aymijah answered, “Kalapaga”. So he went to Kalapaga with several other knights to help them defend their village from Jupron’s attacks. By the time they arrived there, the place was already under attack and Jupron armies had destroyed a large part of the village.

Sir Hanianon and the other knights helped to defend Kalapaga. But it was too late and Kalapaga was defeated. Sir Hanianon told them, “Don’t worry, the darkest hour is just before the dawn”.
