
These are photos of a salt mine in the Afar Triangle in Ethiopia’s Danakil Desert.
For centuries, salt has been mined by the Afar people, known for their ability to withstand extremes.
The average annual temperature over here is the highest in the world, and can rise to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, 50 degrees Celsius.
About 2,000 camels and 1,000 donkeys make the trip daily from Berahile to the quarry.
