These snow walls along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route are upwards of 65 feet high. This region receives one of the heaviest snow falls in the world, 23 feet on average per year. Terrain and snow drift assure that the snow wall area gets more than triple that amount. Image by Pietro Zanarini.
