Rioters used violence, hurt others, destroying things and leaving behind lots of rubbish.
And the Bersih 3.0 demonstrator claimed that they are peaceful and the police are being violent.

Dear formalaysia,
Thanks for the video. He might have provoked the police before the chase. Anyway he should not be beaten up that way. So, that is why Bersih or any big rallies should be held in a stadium. The protesters were angry with the police even before the rally day. I saw some protesters acted violently and shouted very bad words that I have never heard before.

There were too much violence. Anger is bad, and if they said that police are bad because they used violence, they too should not use violence, don’t break the law, follow the rules and don’t provoke the police. If I provoked my big sisters when they are busy or angry, I’ll be in big trouble 🙂 Bersih organisers should make sure nobody break the rules, practice good manners, don’t use bad words and don’t put them in danger. If they can’t do these, don’t plan a huge street rally. It is bad to blame others when we started a problem. If I blamed my big sisters, they’ll tell me to listen to Micheal Jackson’s, ‘Man In The Mirror’. Look before you leap

POINTS:
1. The Star reported that there was a four-wheel drive and a police car.

There was only a police car in videos.
Malaysiakini reports that the four-wheel drive and motorbike came only after the car accident. Protesters were stopped from being violent. They could be stopped, unlike the violent policemen.

2. The Star reported that ‘the policeman driving the car lost control and crashed into three protesters sitting by the road, seriously injuring one of them’.
Videos show that the people hit were standing/walking, and there were more than 3. Malaysia Today reports that 1 person died while 5 others injured.

The first video in Malaysia Today also showed that the protesters didn’t seem very violent after the crash.
3. The Star reported that the driver said he lost consciousness. This video showed that his car windows were closed (00:30), and maybe opened later (00:51). He opened his window?!

This video shows his window was gone at the end. To me it looked too clean at the edges to be broken (00:36), but undeniable, I can’t be sure.

This video showed that he was very well conscious when he was rescued (00:58), although he stated otherwise to The Star. Whether he lost consciousness before this, only he knows.

4. The Star reported that the man in the helmet was ‘Al-Hijrah videographer Mohd Azri Mohd Salleh, 28, who …suffered the injury while trying to help Kons Mohd Kamil out of the patrol car. “I rushed to stop the protesters from harming the policeman but instead they turned on me by kicking and punching me many times.” ‘, portraying him as a victim.

This video shows that Mohd Azri pushed someone, which might have led to him being beaten up (00:17). Note that the man he pushed did not attack him later.

This video shows that only about two men were attacking him at the beginning, while others were pulling them apart (00:36). And true enough, Bersih protesters saved him (00:46 onwards).

Bersih protesters also clearly saved Mohd Kamil (driver), without pushing anyone (01:18).

5. The PDRM official video did not show how protesters overturned the car.

This video does show the overturn of the car and it does not look like a riot. It was very civil (01:07).

The video tallies with The Star’s photograph. The people looked calm and possibly concerned.

This video adds to evidence that the crowd was helping, in the scenes before the car was overturned, and especially (00:38) when a man was pulled to safety from being crushed by the car.

If you collect the evidence on police violence, you wil find that there was more violence from police than from the protesters.
I hold fast to my belief that BERSIH supporters went there peacefully, regardless of whether they were upset about elections, PTPTN, freedom of assembly, corruption, or BN overall etc.
Only 2 main incidents serve to mar the reputation of the protesters.
1. The breach of the barricade can easily be a case of miscommunication, and genuine thought that the police were finally growing up. It could also be agitated, emotional protesters. Anyhow, the whole crowd did NOT surge in after them, and the situation was manageable by the many policemen on the other side of the barricade. No one died.
2. The Sogo car incident. I believe that BERSIH demonstrations have always shown Malaysians at their best, with tolong-menolong being the main rule of conduct. I stand by that. Even in an event where people might have died, Malaysians did not retaliate with violence. Malaysians are NOT hooligans, no matter what the authorities and the mainstream press said.

Thank you for writing and thanks for the links and videos. When I looked at the videos, I am very sad to see how people reacted when they are angry. My parents would scold me if I shouted or slammed the door when I am angry. I still think that those demonstrators acted violently. If they really wanted peace they should not caused the accident by throwing things towards the moving police car or provoke the police. Please click here Other people too may get hurt during the accident. And some demonstrators threw rubbish all around and ruined things and plants. Anger is bad. Bersih 3.0 should be held in a stadium so that the organiser can control the crowd and they won’t disturb other people.
My parents say even shouting is a bad value.
If they feel that police are brutal, they should not be brutal too because we should not follow bad practice.

I do not want to go there because it looks dangerous and I might get hurt in the crowd. Even adults can get hurt when there are too many people around. And I heard the demonstrators shouted bad words that I do not understand. I do not like violence 🙂

Dear Ahmad, I know you that from your post you have been reading the newspapers, but just to let you know, they are all biased. If you want to know the real truth, please read online newspapers like The Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini which give an unbiased view on what happened. Crowd only became angry after excessive tear-gas and water cannon, and protestors overturned the police car because they THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS PINNED UNDERNEATH. So, don’t be fooled by some of the adults. XD

And why didn’t they check the victim first before hitting the policeman and the cameraman? And why didn’t they look down under the car to check for the victims instead of overturning the car? If my ball rolls under a car, I won’t overturn the car to take the ball. By the way I read Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini too. And one of my videos was from Malaysiakini

In the first place why should they demostrate? There are other avenues, they can write to newspaper (Harakah, Suara Keadilan), their rep can go to the parliment.
Others have rights too.

Thanks for writing 🙂 I really agree with you. If they still have to organise Bersih 4, only the opposition leaders and Bersih organisers should take part in the rally and not their supporters; only then they can make sure that there is no BN or police agent to instigate a riot. And their supporters will not be exposed to police brutality, water cannons or tear gas.

There were lots of demonstrations in USA and Europe but most were peaceful. There were demonstrations in China, Thailand, Indonesia and now the Arab Spring. Malaysian used to be so peaceful and the people do not like to go out shouting in the street. But now people are behaving weirdly because some leaders teach them not to respect the law. I am sad because adult should behave themselves. There in no fool like an old fool. Please visit my blog again.
