Total Lunar Eclipse – June 16, 2011

INTO DARKNESS: The moon slowly being obscured by the earth's shadow — Pic: Angkasa.

Lunar means moon.

There was a total lunar eclipse on June 16, 2011.

Lunar eclipse happens when the Earth blocks the Moon from the Sun.

It happens when the Sun, the Earth and the Moon are in straight line or  almost; with the Earth in the middle.

Total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth blocks the whole moon.

If only about half Moon is blocked by the Earth, it will be a partial lunar eclipse.

This is a picture that I made using the Microsoft PowerPoint to show how lunar eclipse happens.

First I tried to watch the lunar eclipse at 12:56 a.m., but I can’t see anything because it was too cloudy.

Then I woke up early and went outside to watch the lunar eclipse at 6:05 a.m. and this time I can see the eclipse but it was still cloudy.

I waited and soon it was less cloudy and I can see the eclipse clearly.

Anyway I miss the total eclipse.

I hope that I’m not going to miss another total lunar eclipse next time.

More Water Spouts Predicted In Malaysian Waters

Water spout seen from Pengkalan Teluk Buih, Air Papan, Mersing, Malaysia on June 18, 2011. (

At about 3:30 pm on June 18, 2011, villagers in Pengkalan Teluk Buih, Air Papan, Mersing, Johore were surprised to see a water spout that swiftly moved towards their village.

A lot of fishermen’s boats were reported damaged.

Water spout rarely happens in Malaysian waters in the past.

Anyway the Meteorological Department predicts that the changing climate could result in more waterspouts in certain areas such as the one that occurred here.

Similar waterspouts had been detected in Penang, Selangor, Malacca, Sarawak and Sabah.

Water spout is something like a tornado(twister) but it started in the sea or ocean.

It is a disaster.

Stamp Fair In PJ

My mother(L) and I(middle) was searching for beautiful stamps at the stamp fair with another stamp collector (R).

We went to a stamp fair in Petaling Jaya on Saturday, June 12, 2011.

It was held at the Perpustakaan Komuniti Petaling Jaya or Petaling Jaya Community Library.

There were a lot of beautiful and colourful stamps at the fair.

I bought a lot lovely ‘Olympics stamps’, stamps on space travels, animals and many others from Uncle Haji Mohamed Abdullah.

I also bought some Spanish stamps to complete my collection.

I started to collect Spanish stamps after Pak Cik Amin gave me some colourful Spanish stamps.

And I was very happy because I found a stamp with a picture of Yuri Gagarin!

Uncle Haji Mohamed Abdullah is a stamp dealer from Penang (Pulau Pinang).

Anyway, big sister Kaman bought a lot more stamps than me 😐

There was a colouring contest, lucky draws and stamp display by the Philatelic Society Of Malaysia at the stamp fair.

My big sister Kaman won one of the lucky draws.

The prize was a key chain.

During the last stamp fair, I won two first day covers.

I love to go to stamps fairs because I love stamps 🙂
