Bacteria

Bacteria are tiny one-cell micro-organisms.

They can reproduce inside or outside their hosts.

Their hosts are people, animals and plants.

Like other germs, bacteria don’t make their own food.

There bad bacteria and good bacteria.

Bad bacteria can cause eye infection, cholera, tuberculosis (TB) and others.

A bacteria named Salmonella can caused something like a very bad food poisoning.

Salmonella

They are sometimes found in eggs and peanut butter.

There are very dangerous bacteria named super bugs.

A type of super bug

Super-bugs are very difficult to be killed.

Super-bugs are usually found in hospital.

My grandfather was infected by super bugs when he was sick in UKMSC a few years ago.

The doctors said that I cannot visit him at that time because super bugs are even more dangerous to kids.

Good bacteria in our tummy keep us healthy by helping us to use nutrients from the food we eat.

We use good bacteria for making cheese and yoghurt.

A type of bacteria used to make cheese

Cheese and yoghurt are healthy food.

We also use good bacteria to make medicines and vaccines (vak-seens).

Medicines and vaccines help us to fight germs so that we can be healthy.

Uncle Azahar taught me that some bacteria can be bad bacteria if they are moved from their original site.

Fungi

Fungi (fun-guy) are multi-cell plant like organisms.

That means fungi are made by many cells.

Fungi are different from plants because fungi cannot make their own food.

They take their food from plants, animals and human.

Fungi live in damp and warm places.

Athlete Foot Is A Fungi Infection

Athlete foot and ringworm are caused by fungi infection.

Animals can get ringworm too.

Fungi can make human, animals and plants sick.

Fungi grew on my roselle plant and killed it.

Some fungi are poisonous but some are not.

Not all fungi are bad.

We can eat some fungi like mushroom.

Mushrooms are delicious and good for us.

Anyway some mushroom are poisonous.

Yeast is a type of fungi.

We use yeast to make pizza dough and bread.

A type of yeast that is used to make bread under a microscope

We also use fungi in the fermentation of soy sauce.

What Are Germs?

Germs are tiny living things that can make us sick.

They can make plants and animals sick too.

But some of them are good and useful.

We need  to use a microscope to see them.

Germ Under A Microscope

Germs do not make their own food.

They get their food from their environment.

Environment means the surrounding or where we live.

Bad germs produce toxins which is something like poison.

The toxin can make us sick.

So when bad germs get into our body; they eat our nutrients, reproduce and make us sick.

Influenza A(H1N1) and AIDS are caused by germs.

There are 4 types of germs:

1)Fungi (fun-guy)

Mushrooms are fungi

2)Bacteria (back-teer-ee-uh)

Bacteria That Look Like Capsules

3)Protozoa (pro-toh-zoh-uh)

Protozoa That Look Like Capsules With Green Leaves Inside

4)Viruses (vy-rus-iz)

A Virus That Looks Like A Spider With Jewel Head

Fungi are the biggest and viruses are the smallest.

Germs love to grow in dirty places and spreads very fast after a big flood, tsunami, earthquake and wars.

After natural disasters there will be cholera outbreak and other diseases from bacteria infections.

To fight germs we have to keep ourselves and our environment clean.

Always wash our hands using anti-bacteria soap and clean water, eat healthy food and drink a lot of water, juices, tea, herb tea and other healthy drinks.

A Day in Melaka (Malacca)

Yesterday I went to Melaka to visit Uncle Khairul Najmi’s mother.

Her name is Opah Asmah Idris.

Uncle Najmi is my father’s good friend.

She had a heart attack on Sunday.

She is now in the CCU ward of Hospital Melaka.

I met Atuk Idris and Aunty Aini at the hospital.

(but we forgot to take photo at the hospital)

After that we had lunch at ‘Lot 85’ with my father’s friends.

Their names are Aunty Jennifer Lim, Uncle Lee Chong Seong, Uncle Yong Chin Fook, Uncle David Wang and Uncle Ridwan Aziz.

They are Sulaimanians – they used to study at Sultan Sulaiman Secondary School (SSSS) in Kuala Terengganu. (The school blog – Click)

Now they live in Melaka.

I eat tasty nasi ayam (chicken rice) and drink a nice, cold lime juice.

We stop at Masjid Al-Azim for zohor.

On the way home, I saw a forest fire by the highway.

Forest fire is a disaster.

The forest fire reminds me of Micheal Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’.

I am sad because I was asleep in the car when Auntie Yaman called from Sudan.

I enjoyed the trip and hope to go to Melaka again.

Free The Killer Whales

OSHA

There is a video on CNN about ‘Captive Whales Will Kill, OSHA Warned’.

OSHA is Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA Logo

I agree with that.

I wrote about it in my blog, ‘Killer Whale Killed Its Trainer’.

I think killer whales need to live in their own homes – the oceans.

Killer Whale

They love the oceans and the ocean are their homes.

Killer whales want to be free and be with their families.

Killer Whales

We can make a floating zoo in the ocean and use boats to visit them.

It will be something like a safari.

Killer whales are wild animal.

They can get angry and kill other people.

May be killer whales feel like being jailed in the huge tanks.

A Killer Whale and its Trainer

I think people will be building floating zoos one day.

Please protect the animals and trees.

And please protect our earth as in ‘Earth Song’.
